God is dead quote - Nietzsche?

Can you guys explain this to me? I think it is saying that if one stops believing in god then they stop believing in the morals and values that go along with believing in the god. Leaving behind god is leaving behind morals which leads to Nihilism (the belief in nothing) - also, Nietzsche wasn't a nihilist was he?
